Augmented Reality

I was talking to a freid about “Augmented reality”, it was a first for me hence this posting.

Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated sensory input such as sound or graphics. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.

Its superb! Imagine going into KL and getting directed around via a augmented reality. Or a surgeon getting help on the raw data while he operates, its will significantly reduce the room for error.

Wonder if this has been explored in detail here in Malaysia

HDBaseT, The New HDMI

HD tv’s are finally spreading like wide fire here in Malaysia with price drops making it affordable. With the introduction of the 3D tv’s, more and more are going for a technology older. With these new tv’s come the need for HDMI cables so that you can enjoy superior video and audio on High definition or Blue Ray.

But hold your horses as HDMI has already have a replacement.

A new audio/video cable technology is being developed that might spell the end of HDMI cables, which are currently used to connect a wide range of audio and video devices. The new technology is known as HDBaseT and carries audio and video signals and power on standard Cat 5e/6 Ethernet cables.
