They Go Faster, We Get Expensive

So our broadband has been a rubbish for many years now but being Malaysians we try to go with whats available to us but when you see whats happening around us, i need to scream.

Ok, what am i whinning about.. Have a look at the streamyx pricing.

So the fastest speed offered is 4Mbps and its RM268 to get that kind of speed. Expensive? I definately think so, considering that the governemnt is pushing for broadband penetration, it looks like you need to pay a premium to enjoy such speeds. BUT THATS REALITY ISNT IT?

Now from across the Causeway :

SINGAPORE – Mobile broadband speeds are set to double to 42Mbps by the second half of the year. And this might not burn a hole in your wallet.

Now how much does it cost? Yes the currency is stronger and all that jazz but when you compare things like this, its gotta be dollar to dollar isnt it? Singaporeans dont earn less then you(dollar to dollar).

SingTel currently offers a 21Mbps mobile broadband service that is priced at $69.30 with a two-year contract. There is no indication of how much 42Mbps is going to cost but even if its double(very unlikely) its still cheaper than what we pay for blady 2Mbps!

Some simple maths so it makes sense to me, i pay RM118 (RM88 + phone line rental) and i get 1Mbps. In a Singaporean context it would be (RM3 per Mbps [RM3.30 x 21 = RM63] )

So in a nutshell we pay 36 times more!!

Amazing ha! :)

Lets Make Em Keep It Clean

Parties are always fun and a blast but here in Malaysia, post parties are nothing short of a eye sore! I was at Thailand a few years ago and while my friend and me were watching a parade along the main street in Phuket, we saw something that was new to us. The municipal council was cleaning up right behind the procession to ensure that the infamous tourist destination remained clean.

Now back to home [Read more...]

Help Princess Charmaine

charmaine

I read this story about Charmaine who was diagnosed with 4th stage neuroblastoma on 13th February 2009. She is a little girl who is fighting hard to live on and the her hope of treating this cancer comes with a USD$350,000 deposit and god knows how much more after that. Nuffnang in Singapore are in to lend a helping hand and are running a drive to raise as much as they can to help this young girl.

Her chances of survival are just 10-20 percent with local treatement but there is a treatment in the US however, at one specific hospital in New York, that ups her chances to 40-50% which they need badly to have any hope for this child

Its a lot of money for anyone’s standards and i think anyone and everyone who can help, should try to do their part. You can donate via Nuffnang’s fundraising campaign would run for a period of two months from 23rd July to 24th September 2009

You don’t have to be Singaporean to help, anyone who wants too can and we should help this little girl if we can. Hopefully the family gets the support they need for Charmaine to under go her treatement and i wish her well
