Michael Phelps Gets 8th Gold Medal

I watched the finals of the Men’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay swimming at the Cube Aquatic Swimming Center at Beijing. It was the race that could mark Michael Phelps 8th gold medal in a single Olympics. It didn’t always go the Americans way. Each of the American swimmers had different opponents to challenge en route a world record time of 3:29.34.

Phelps has stuck to his word of bagging 8 goal medals and this is surely going to be a very hard record to crack in the future. For me ,Phelps is the greatest swimmer to ever brace this generation!

The 21-year-old broke his own world record of 9.72 seconds to take the world record too 9.69 seconds. He could have easily gone below that if he had not started celebrating about 15 meters thumping his chest in delight!

A Bolt of Lightning

Usain Bolt is now the world’s fastest man. Jamaican sprinter, who doesn’t even consider the 100 meters his best race, set the world record Saturday night with a time of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix, .02 seconds faster than the old record held by his countryman, Asafa Powell.

Bolt was using the 100 for “speed work” and to avoid having to run the more grueling 400, when, suddenly, he ran the world’s second-fastest time last month at 9.76. Even then, he said he wasn’t sure if he would give up the 400 meters for the 100 for the Beijing Olympics and who would blame him for doing that considering he is the new worlds fastest man!!

Watch him at the Olympics, dont be suprised if he smashes the record again!! :)
