This is a shocker, The Malacca State government has decided to shut down the infamous Jonker street. Ask anyone who goes to Malacca for a visit, they will tell you 2 things. Check out A Farmosa during the day and chill at Jonker Street at night. Its a important part of the city and the state government decided to close it down. Why?
“Now, we see most of the Malacca residents fully supporting DAP over MCA candidates, who have been serving them. Hence, we decided to cancel the night market and we hope they will be happy,” the daily quotes Malacca Chief Minister as saying.
Apparently back in the day when the Malacca government mooted the idea of the night market, DAP protested saying that it was not right to close the street for the sake of 200 hawkers but that was a right decision by the state government at that time to stick to their idea in my view. Using that protest from over 12-13 years ago by saying that since many support DAP now, they hope this decision makes people happy……….. sounds like revenge to me.
This is horrible, who gave them permission to remove something that is part of the state’s DNA? Seems like they are punishing people for not voting for the ruling party. I hope that there is enough pressure and the market is reinstated, these ppl should not be allowed to do whatever they want.
