The Mandate

The parliament resumes today after almost a month and a half break. There has been so much talk about when Pakatan will take over and the new leadership which is iminent with the Barisan Nasional government. If you listen to some of the speeches by the Barisan leaders, its almost certain that Najib will be the PM and Muhyiddin will be the DPM. Some must have forgotten that there is a whole electoral process that has got to be undertaken before the decision is given.

The word of the day is MANDATE [Read more...]

No More Open House?

With time we tend to loose much of our true identities. I remember when i was younger, i used to balik kampung to my dad’s hometown of Parit Buntar. After the passing of my grand mother, everyone decided to move out of the area to different places and i effectively lost my kampung. Till today i complain to the fact that i don’t have a kampung to go back too and hopefully one day i can have a “artificial kampung” for my kids or grand kids. Why? Because i think by having a kampung it will be a reason for family to gather. Its a opportunity for you to move out of the city to a place where life is a few gears slower while getting the chance to mix and mingle with your fellow Malaysian brothers and sisters.

Identity as Malaysians is what keeps us as a nation together. We are blessed to be in a multi cultural society where we have so many different festivals and culture to be part off. As Malaysians we want to be able to be together during every festival to enjoy the different food, the attire, the whole celebration.

The prime minister’s Raya open house is something that lots of Malaysians look forward too. Back in the day, my dad used to take us for the PM’s open house where everyone that comes there gets to shake the leader of our nations hands and enjoy the festivities with every Malaysian there! Pak Lah To Retire In March

So the cat is out of the bag, PM Badawi has announced to not to defend his Umno president’s post and will quit in March next year when the ruling party meets for its annual general assembly. The current PM is set to be he PM who held the premiership for the shortest time frame ever clocking 5years and 5months in office, 1month shorter than Hussein Onn who had to resign due to health reasons.

Now the transition plan to his deputy is underway with Najib set to become the next Prime Minister of the country. That is provided Najib bags the UMNO top post un-contested.Interesting that the PM still wants to hold on to office for 5 months for the “transition plan” to take effect and the transition is smooth.

So is Najib what Malaysia wants?

What About Tunku?

I saw this bizarre piece of news in my view that a salesman from KL had lodged a police report against the former prime minister Tun Dr M for having caused Malaysia to suffer from economic problems.

According to the complainant :

Wee represents a group of concerned citizens who wants the police to investigate Mahathir for “merosakan dan menjahanamkan (spoiling and destroying)” the economy.

Wee states in his report that Mahathir did so by approving bailouts for Pewaja Steel for RM13 billion, a RM2 billion bailout for a shipping consortium owned by his relative and bailing out Malaysian Airlines

(Mahathir) made statements that the people should reject Umno and Barisan though he was campaigning for his son Murkhriz. His actions has caused uneasiness among Malaysians

So what do you say to that! Looks to me like people are getting desperate ha! So we have a ACA who have not investigated the former PM, we have a whole government who did look that way and nothing was done(hence you would think that he is not the root cause) but a certain person/group who think that Tun Dr M is root cause and made a report towards the former PM.

A Innocent Mistake

I saw a posting today on Malaysiakini about a racist blogger that has made many people furious. The original posting was from a blogger from KL who goes by the name of Sammy who apparently bashed the daylights out of Indians because her phone got stolen by a couple of Indians.

You can read bits of her alleged posting HERE.

When i first saw the posting i was a little disturbed by her public bashing of a entire kind because of a few that caused her a mobile phone. But then i remembered a conversation i had with a colleague sometime ago.

We were talking about racist and how racist remarks normally come out.

Scenario

Imagine your driving your car and approaching a traffic light, just as your approaching the light it turns yellow but the car in front of you slows down. Since your on your way to see your girlfriend who is waiting for you to take her to buy a new pair of shoes, you are in a rush or you’ll never hear the end of it because you were 2 minutes late. As the light turns green, you overtake the car and see a Chinese lady driving slowly and carefully.

You probably start cursing and calling her names and insulting her religion not realising that it has her ethnicity and background has got absolutely nothing to do with her driving slowly. Then you pick up your girlfriend and blame her for causing the delay say things like “that Chinese &#@$” was driving slow la!” You know how the chinese are la!?@#$@#$%”.

Now imagine if you were extremely early. Same scenario, light changes you slow down without realising that the car is in front of you in the first place. Light turns green, you overtake and drive off without even realising the colour of the car!!

All of us are racist in our own way. Is it because just because you had a experience with someone of a particular race that you decide the rest of that race is the same??

In my view, Sammy was a little fast in jumping the gun and generalizing all Indians. Yes, mistake made because she lost her mobile phone and she has since removed the posting and apologized relentlessly

Personally i felt that it was a bad mistake in jumping the gun and venting too soon. I think anyone would have done the same if in a scenario like yours. I think that everyone should accept her apology and move on with it. She made a bad but i feel a innocent mistake and she is sorry. Period.

The consequences though may be more than you deserve. Maybe you should go in to Bukit Aman and make a report while posting another apology to the race that you generalized and bashed.

Hope the repercussions are not too heavy but i hope its a lesson for all of us. Whether you like it or not, we live in a multi-ethnic society and there are good and bad people living here. We must be sensitive to others and we cannot go around bashing other religions just because a few are not the best.

My 2 cents
