It’s here again! Its Earth Hour 2013! The 23rd of March 2013 see’s the world turn off their non-essential lights for 1 hour in support of our planet. The creators of Earth Hour , WWF are urging us to go beyond Earth Hour! With celebrities, and people of prominence pledging their support and are even challenging us to take steps in their I will if you will campaigns.
It’s a fantastic event in my view. Make no mistake that it’s a symbolic gesture of turning off your lights for one hour BUT the reach and the awareness it creates is priceless!
Wish you have a fantastic Earth Hour and lets all go beyond the hour!
Earth Hour is a yearly event that is held on the last Saturday of March when people turn off their lights for one hour in support of mother nature. What started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 has spread all around the world with more than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone.
This is a fantastic stat! It shows that more and more people are getting more aware of the cause and i personally belief that this is an awareness campaign, a campaign to get more and more people aware of the need to do our parts as individuals so that collectively we can make a change.
This is the 5th year for Earth Hour, in Malaysia its 4th year. It started in Malaysia in 2009 and its picked up so much and its brilliant to see many supporting the cause. What is not very nice is that people still hitting out that its a big drama and how its a waste of energy etc … Well, while everyone is entitled to their opinion it makes you wonder if the “noise makers” are living a true sustainable lifestyle or simply don’t have enough friends and need the attention.
I congratulate WWF globally and WWF-Malaysia locally for their hard work in making Earth Hour as big as it is. It’s no easy feat, i know that for sure. Earth Hour is not the solution but it is a powerful tool that makes us all aware that we need to do something and the organization that started the campaign are well aware of this and keep reiterating that it’s the start so that we can “live green”
Happy Earth Hour 2012 everyone, i hope everyone educates just one other person and we take part and support this movement. After all it is one that is extremely important and can help our planet!
I was browsing through environmental events and i stumbled upon the Australia Department OF Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Community. What was cool is that they have documented all the events that take place and support the causes, even those that are driven by NGO’s
Even Earth Hour is on it! Malaysian government, watch and learn!
The world goes dark on the 26th of March 2011, a event that has been going on for a few years now to raise awareness about the pressing issue of climate change. This is the 3rd time Malaysia is participating in this global movement and hopefully more and more Malaysians are going to pledge their support to this cause which i consider very important.
There is a huge misconception though about the Earth Hour concept itself, normally from those who dont do anything about the issues but provide their kind commentary. Now what is Earth Hour?
Its a symbolic event to call the masses to turn off their lights for one hour to raise awareness of climate change and to call for everyone to take this to their daily lives to go Beyond Earth Hour Continue reading »
