Bhopal Disaster
Imagine going to bed one day and getting up the next day to find that pretty much everyone is dead or almost dead due to the negligence of a Multi National who came to your town to run a dangerous business in the name of contributing or improving your local economy.Union Carbide did just that!
Bhopal disaster also known as Bhopal Gas Tragedy was one of the world’s worst industrial catastrophes. It occurred on the night of December 2–3, 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. A leak of methyl isocyanate gas and other chemicals from the plant resulted in the exposure of hundreds of thousands of people. Estimates vary on the death toll. The official immediate death toll was 2,259 and the government of Madhya Pradesh has confirmed a total of 3,787 deaths related to the gas release. Others estimate 3,000 died within weeks and another 8,000 have since died from gas-related diseases. A government affidavit in 2006 stated the leak caused 558,125 injuries including 38,478 temporary partial and approximately 3,900 severely and permanently disabling injuries.
I was not aware of this tragedy till recently when one of my lecturer’s brought it to my attention. I had to find out more and it was shocking! Bet many of us don’t know about it and i think we should! Large multi national’s move their operations to small towns , miles away from their parent company to run these dangerous businesses. The un-suspecting residence of this town are the victims when they were effectively killed off their loved , their hopes and their chance of survival.

Please SHUT DOWN Saleng Zoo
Saleng Zoo is located beside the Johor Zoo. It is home to several species of animals and some of them are rare like the Tapir and the Bengal Tigers.
I read this shocking article about the rubbish that goes on in this Zoo and i think its about time the authorities shut down this zoo once and for all. The article on the WWF-Malaysia website gave me the insight into the poor dead wildlife that was found, possesion of wildlife without permits and the way the animals are used makes me furious!
If the Zoo does not have permits for the wildlife and they even use the wildlife as show pieces in “roadshows”, it makes me wonder what else is going on in this Zoo?
Here’s the big one, PERHILITAN discovered 21 dead tiger cubs in its freezer in 2008!
Other offences :
Zoo’s other previous offences is possession of wildlife without permits including a baby elephant, two slow lorises, a Tomistoma and a number of pythons and storks which were seized by PERHILITAN in various raids. The zoo owner also claimed in an interview in December 2008 that PERHILITAN has seized more than 20 animals from his zoo in the past six to seven years.
Pure madness! While Perhilitian is doing a good job in raiding the zoo’s and the NGO’s like MyCat and WWF-Malaysia are exposing such wrong doing’s, the ones with the real power should step up the legal system that controls these guys and they should face very heavy fines or even shut them down when they cross the line!
I hope that this Zoo gets shut down and act as a example to the other Zoo’s.
Is Prabakaran Really Dead?
I was looking at some random sites to get confirmation of the death of the LTTE leader Prabakaran. People who have been following the updates have different versions of the story so i decided to check it out. What was interesting was the image of the alleged dead Prabakaran. It looked like he had a botox, went for a facial and had his face made up just before he got shot!
Then there is this other picture of him back in 2004 :
He looks way younger now isnt it! For some reason the images of him dead don’t look real to me, almost like its some sorta dead dude who looks like him but not him! And what the give away to me was this statement :
Sri Lankan Media first announced that the militrary had killed Prabakaran while he escaped through ambulance. But later in afternoon they claimed that they found the body of Prabakaran from Nandikadal lagoon.
I understand the fact that the country has suffered tremendously but what I’m interested to know if this is for real or one of those stories that have been conveniently made up?

LTTE’s Velupillai Prabhakaran Shot Dead

May 18, Colombo: The LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was shot dead on Monday while trying to flee in an ambulance, news reports said.
The long standing Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader and the group seem to be on the brink of “extinction” after its leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was shot dead.I saw the news appearing on twitter via the Nutgraph and went over to the Sri Lankan news sites which confirmed of his death.
They seem very happy of this news with event a column on the online news site saying :
LankaPage congratulates President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Sri Lankan Security Forces for defeating terrorism. We honor the sacrifice of all Security Force Members who have lost their lives for this cause.
It must be good news for the majority of Sri Lanka but i have a question. If going out to kill a “terrorist” is the answer what does that make the killer?
