Angkasa-Who?

RM95Mil later the name Angkasawan is no longer to be seen/heard.There was soo much hype and all Malaysians had a proud phase when the first Malaysian astronaut made it to the space station ate nasi lemak and some kuih-muih and came back successfully missing the landing spot due to the extra fat gained from the local delicacies consumed on orbit .

So what now? We have a National Space Agency also that was setup for this purpose which I’m sure have lots of staff who need to keep it running(more ongoing funding required) Lots of money spent and serves what purpose?

Beats me….We are pretty rich eh! What you think about this drama? Good? Bad? or Simply a publicity stunt?

Angkasawan is Back!

After about 11 days our space-man is back! I was watching as much as i could over astro channel 588 and the whole thing was very interesting, the best thing that was done is getting Robert L Gibson(Hoot) to join in the show explaining the events that toke place.

The whole un-docking process and the return of the Soyuz to earth was pretty interesting! It was a pity we didn’t get visual of the capsule making its way into earth due to the ballistic re-entry which cause the capsule to land more then 200km off the intended target. The most interesting part for me is the accuracy in timing for the events that toke place during the episode. It was perfect to the second and it was everyone was so well prepared for any scenario’s.Im glad that everything went well and there wasn’t any mishaps. Dr Sheikh is still at Russia and it would be interesting to see what happens upon his return home:)

Angkasawan Update!

Breaking news!! Our Angkasawan apparently is now a scientist too!!

This is the latest addition of tittles Dr Sheikh rapidly growing list of titles was from Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Zaharudin Idrus, former science advisor to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Dr Sheikh apparently also was assisting Russian aerospace engineer Yuri Malenchenko with some repairs within ISS(apparently fixing some screws, which is harder in space: )) and don’t be surprised if he is declared a Engineer too!!

The list so far, our Angkasawan is a – Medical Doctor,AstronautSpaceFlight Participant,Model and Scientist(sorry if i missed out anything else but im sure the list will grow)

Malaysia Boleh!

SOYUZ TMA-10 LAUNCH

Nice video of the soyuz launch. If you catched the coverage we had on tv im sure you would have felt proud of the focus and attention the Malaysian astonout space flight participant got.Watch this video and it gives you the perspective of the American’s/Russians,hardly a mention of our Angkasawan in the video.

For those of you who missed the launch you got to watch this one! What ever said about this “Angkasawan” deal you got to appreciate the whole space travel gig!

Some Pictures i gathered

Connected: Docked to the ISS is the Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft (left) in this image from Nasa TV yesterday. Docked alongside the Soyuz TMA-11 is Progress resupply ship

Dr Sheikh Muszaphar smiling from inside the spacecraft minutes after the launch on Wednesday.

We have blast off!

Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft carrying Malaysia’s first astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha blasted-off into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at exactly 9.21pm .Im glad that everything went well and there was a live telecast on Astro last night showing the whole blast-off unfold.

My favourite part of the program was the bit when our prime minister thanked Tun M for initiating this whole Angkasawan Program.Im sure Tun M who is recuperating from his surgery would have been proud of that moment!
