World Drums Festival

I was at the Opening Ceremony of the World Drums Festival at Dataran Merdeka yesterday(29th Dec) with Valcy. It was a grand affair with lots of VIP’s attending it and about 10,000 people seated all over the Dataran field. Thank god the weather was kind and it was a pleasant night.

Roads were closed to accommodate this event and it was a good move to ensure there wasn’t a jam and the public had to park their vehicles outside and walk in to the area. The Malaysian orchestra toke the stage first with a array of dancers also complementing this orchestra. The sound system was awesome as you could clearly hear the groups playing with details to every instrument on stage.

Next came the Thai contingent with their traditional renditions with circus like dancers jumping on each other which got the crowd all excited. The Singapore,Japan and Indonesia groups came out and rocked the crowd with their own blend of music.

It was a good opening ceremony with a few giant projector screens all over the field to ensure everyone had a good look at what was happening on stage. They should have used the giant screen though(which was having a day off) .
