The Bukit Antarabangsa landslide is the latest tragedy to hit us here in Malaysia. In a land where we are blessed with no natural disasters,no terorist attacks we unfortunately are left with nothing but pure ignorance that other potential threats. Back on the 11th of December 1993, the condominium fell with occupants still inside unaware of tragedy waiting to strike.
That tragedy toke 48 lives and many injuered and i remember it hapening like it happened last year with the nation gieving for the horrbible sight on tv,radio and the press. Block 1 collapsed when 10 continous days of rainfall led to a landslide after the retaining wall at the Tower’s carpark failed. After that happened, the government and the people were talking about hill side development and how it had to stop.
Typical to the norm, it was debated and spoke about so much for a while and it eventually died off..Why? There was nobody who was responsible and toke accountability in ensuring this never happened again.
5 days short of the Highland Tower tragedy, it has struck again! This time it has happened in Bukit Antarabangsa when a massive landslide crushed homes and blocked the only access road near the top of Bukit Antarabangsa on the 6th of December. Ironically the devastated site is just hundreds of meters from the abandoned Highland Towers.
So far it is reported that four people died and at least one other person was feared buried as a massive landslide crushed homes. There has been 14 victims that have been hospitalized of which 8 have been discharged.
This is also after another landslide which struck at Damansara where there was massive traffic jams and effected CIMB bank. This is in a busy business area where hundreds of people move in and out off on a daily basis, thank god there was no casualty and injuries. Imagine if something would have happened?
Im no expert but logically, its now the rainy season and landslides and disasters of such magnitude are prone to happened. Isnt there any watch on there areas? Makes you wonder if it is ever safe for us to live?It may sound like a small thing to some but imagine if you are effected by such a tragedy?? Not such a small matter ha!
Watch the video below of a interview with a environmentalist, i agree with Mr Gurmit. He is absolutely right as someone has got to take responsibility and it has got to happen NOW! We cant wait anymore, we cant wait for more lives, more homes and more tears.
