Suspect’s Swallowed SIM Card Can Provide Clue In Nurin’s Murder

 

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) — The SIM (subscriber identity module) card swallowed by an Indonesian woman suspect when she was arrested by police yesterday could provide important evidence in the sexual assault and murder of eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin.

According to a police source, police were trying to retrieve the card from the 23-year-old suspect which she swallowed while being taken from Bukit Aman to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court for police to obtain a seven-day remand order on her.

The woman’s action choked her and caused her to faint while being led into the court building.

“We’re trying our best to retrieve the SIM card although it’s difficult. The card could give us the lead in this case,” the source said when contacted by Bernama Sunday.

It is believed that the SIM card contains the telephone numbers and calls made by the suspect to Nurin’s father, Jazimin Abdul Jalil, after the girl went missing.

The suspect who worked for a stall at a Ramadan bazaar in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, is believed to have held Nurin in captive.

Besides her, four men aged between 27 and 33, and the wife of one of the men were arrested in Section 7, Shah Alam on Friday in connection with Nurin’s murder.

However, the pregnant woman was later released after police took her statement.

The source said a police forensic officer sent to the United States to meet Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officers with the recorded images from the closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) at the spot where Nurin’s body was found in a sports bag at a shoplot in Petaling Utama on September 17, arrived in Washington today.

The recording was handed to the FBI laboratory to get clearer images which could determine whether the arrested Indonesian woman suspect was the same woman seen in the CCTV recording, while the investigation report is expected to be ready in a week’s time.

Meanwhile, the results of the DNA test on strands of hair found on Nurin’s body will be known next week.

“The strands of hair will be matched with the blood samples taken from the five suspects arrested,” the source said.

According to the source, Nurin was held captive and murdered in separate places.

When contacted, Jazimin Abdul Jalil said he did not know the Indonesian woman and until now police had not informed him of new developments in investigations into his daughter’s murder.

He said his family wished to meet his daughter’s actual killer/s.
