What is superstitions? Well this is what Wiki thinks it is ->
Superstition is a credulous belief or notion, not based on reason, knowledge, or experience. The word is often used pejoratively to refer to folk beliefs deemed irrational. This leads to some superstitions being called “old wives’ tales”. It is also commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, prophecy and spiritual beings, particularly the irrational belief that future events can be influenced or foretold by specific unrelated prior events.
Im about to get married and im hearing soo many different versions of how things are supposed to be done that it makes you start wondering why on earth are certain things done in certain ways.
I for one think that superstitions are things that people used to do at a particular time and find that its not suitable to do it, hence a road block is put in to stop anything bad that can possibily happen, happen!
Okay let me explain this.. For instance, have you heard that one where they say that you should not cut your finger nails at night?Ask a elder why and they would prolly tell you that its not good and because they are not sure of the real reasons, they end up making up something to scare you so you wont end up doing it.
Well..from a little research and speaking to the slightly learned elders, they would tell you that the reason they say that is because in the older days there was no electricity and no nail clippers so if you cut your nails at night, you could hurt yourself. THATS ALL!
In this day in time, we have eletricity.. no shortages of nail clippers to choose from which effectively makes this superstition not relevant to current times anymore.. Isnt it?
Well just like that there are tons of superstition out there which are not relevant to current times but people still insist that you should follow them. Im no expert but there must be a reason why they are there in the first place so its better to find out before following something which is defunct.
Its some babbling from my end because im hearing so much of this recently but my 2cents, its worth the research because there could be superstitions being formulated right now without your knowledge and carried forward to the future generations but would it be relevant then?
