Religious Rumble

With the Allah issue now taking up the  hottest spaces on major dailies, it made me think if half a million would fix it?

Prime Minister Najib announced a government allocation of RM500,000 to rebuild the Metro Tabernacle Church

That followed with more churches getting attacked, a surau getting attacked and there has been constant anticipation what would happen next? Personally i haven’t seen enough being done by the government to move in to swiftly address this problem because like it or not, it is a HUGE PROBLEM.

We shout to the world about Malaysia being truly asia and when we describe Malaysia to the world we never fail to tell them how we live together in perfect harmony. We even come up with visuals of 4 ladies(above) wearing their respective ethnic costumes all happy. But is this nothing but a image that we want to paint?

Apparently the police have a lead on who are responsible for the attacks and even investigating a individual who posted a status message which that got them all suspicious. All well and good but just not good enough for me!

For me, religious leaders should be brought together. A consultation process where representatives from the various religions should have a say in the ultimate outcome. Every single religious group should be part of this “round table” if you like and taken seriously. There should be absolute transparency so the people will accept this outcome with open arms.

Some may say that this is nothing compared to what happens in other countries but personally we cant even allow it to reach levels we are in right now!

I hope that something is done sooner rather than later and we can get back to our normal lives for now and to the future. We definitely cant wait anymore and we all know what extremes people would go when its a issue as sensitive as religion.

*My fingers are crossed and still optimistic
