On the 1st of Sept 2008 a hurricane swept past Kampung Delek , Taman Bertek, Rantau Panjangat Klang.When this happened the Mp of Kapar, YB S Manikavasagam rushed onto the site to his constituency to see what had happened. The Mp who has the reputation of being a “on the field mp” has a close bond with his constituents and wanted to know exactly what had happened by him self and not by anyone else.
When he reached the site, to his devastation 60 over houses have been devastated by strong Hurricane like wind uprooting roofs and destroying their properties. This was a truly a tragic site, majority of the Malay crowd were fasting and this had to occur to them in the time when they should be gearing up towards Hari Raya.
He was joint there by Dr Halimah Ali who is also ADUN for Selat Klang,Majlis Perbandaran Klang who were there immediately tos clear the fallen trees. While, Jabatan Bomba dan penyelamat members where at the spot clearing huge trees fallen on roof top.
To his suprise the MB of Selangor Tan Sri Khalid was no where to be seen despite numerous calls that were made to him to come on site to see the extend of the damage. The Kapar Mp wasted no time in slamming the poor response of his fellow party member.To me this was a breath of fresh air, never have i heard of a BN politician slamming another for not acting quick enough. It is healthy prompting that will keep every leader on his/her toes to constantly fo their jobs in keeping the rakyat’s welfare well taken off.
In the latest update to that, YB S. Manikavasagam received six threatening calls last Friday, one of which was from an association chief who abused him for his hard-hitting comments against Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for not visiting the victims of last week’s freak storm.
Its pretty suprising that such threats have been directed to a mp that is genuinely interested in the welfare of the people and not afraid to speak up against anyone who is not up to the mark. Im sure Tan Sri Khalid knows the difference between being a professional and acknowledging this call. He has been a top executive in large companies before embracing politics hence he will be well aware of such scenario’s. Congratulations to the Mp of Kapar YB S Manikavasagam for his swift actions and those who came to lend a hand to those in need. As far as those who made those calls, its time to get yourself a strong dose of coffee and wake up to smell this new smell of how life is going to be.
