Football is our National Sport
- With 4 comments

Sports is a big part of my life.Ive always been a fan of numerous sports,Football,Motor Sports,Squash,Tennis and even the Athletics. I’m sure if you asked anyone from this region on which sport the love most , the answer will be Football then followed by something which their country does well in. Now lets deep dive a little.
This is how i see Football in Malaysia
We all love watching the Saturday night EPL games on tv and then you get a hard time when your asked if you watch the Malaysian league and you say..No? Well can you blame anyone from saying that? I personally feel…Nope, nothing wrong in not watching the local league. Who you kidding?? Lets say you go to a store to get a drink. The choices are Coke,Pepsi or Jack-Ass Cola(all the same price) which will you choose? No brainer isn’t it? You wouldn’t waste your money on a crap product when you can get a quality one for the same price…would you?

Back in the 80’s-90’sI honestly watched the local league. Those were the times when Selangor,KL and Singapore were the power houses and they had some quality players donning the colors. Then some wise politician decided that Singapore was winning too much and got rid of them!! What happened about 10 years down the road?
Let me show you ….Latest FIFA Ranking
Malaysia - Current Ranking 164 - Singapore Current Ranking 126 - Iraq Current Ranking 67
We are on the 164th position in the FIFA Rankings, the country we kicked out of our local league is on 124 and just for fun i included war stricken Iraq who are sitting pretty on the 67th place. Now how about that??
So whats the problem with our football players? Racism? Favoritism? or just pure crap?
Most of us football loving fans would have had this conversation before and you hear all kind of solutions for this major problem that were facing. My favorite solution was from one of my friends who said “send our women to Brazil, get them to mate with some Brazilian Footballers and let the kids grow up there, Bring them back for international duty then send them straight back before they taste the nasi lemak, then we might have some hope!!” Agree with him? With the kind of money spent soo far with multiple changes…with almost no result, I don’t think its a bad idea after all!
I think we need a major refresh in the approach, We should have played that friendly against Manchester United during the AFC Cup in KL, got a ban from AFC! Fire all politicians out of the game and hire ex footballers to refresh the league format and start from scratch,i think politics and sports don’t mix! We may take sometime but we’ll have 100% growth rate when were back in the game in ranking! Lesser parents will allow their kids into sports and the situation is just going to get worst! Hopefully we don’t do a Singapore by scouting some foreign talent, giving them citizenship and getting to don the national colors.
Then you ask yourself this next question, if we were higher up in FIFA Rankings had better quality players will the fans pack stadiums? Lets have a look at 1 Asian Nation doing just that : Japan Current Ranking 34 .How does their stadiums look? Like this ->

So with that much said…can you blame anyone for not watching a local match?

Honestly, great shout out. Well, the phrase start ‘em young comes to mind here. But it’s hard for the politicians to let go, with all the money involved. You have to understand their point of view: if they loose their positions on the board, then the poor guys will have to depend on getting their incomes from their SMI companies and corporations that they own or are silent partners in. Poor guys will suffer in poverty.
Then who is gonna buy their wifes the rm1600 Jimmy Chu handbags and Prada power pants? Don’t want that, do we?
