I received a letter from Astro today informing me of the new price of the Astro Sports package and its gone up!! I currently subscribe to the Astro Family Package(default) ,Variety, Learning & Sports and pay RM 59.95. With the new price hike now i have to pay RM 71.95, which is a RM12 price hike!
Globally the cost of sports content has escalated substantially. At Astro, we ave absorbed these cost over the past years and have managed to keep our sports package at the lowest possible price in the region. However we are unable to continue to absorbing the cost increases, For us to continue offering premium international and local sporting programmes, a revision of the Astro Sports package is unavoidable.
Now the best part, (how kind of Astro)
For your convenience there is no action required n your part, We will update your account automatically and the new pricing will be reflected in your monthly statement
With the economic slow down, everyone seems to be cutting back or coming out with innovative ways to not cause too much damage to the consumer but then again, if you are a monopoly.. The rules dont apply, do they?
This is why we need a alternative, Astro needs a strong competitor in Malaysia to keep them on their feet! I understand that prices increase but i think that there must be a better way to address this problem other than increasing the prices!
The ironic thing is that when i logged on to the Astro website, to check out if there are any notifications, there isnt any?! Whats pretty amusing is that, if you were a new subscriber and you are deciding what packages to subscribe too, you would think that you need to pay only RM59.95 for the same packages i have.. Not till you receive your bill i suppose!
