Are our express Buses actually safe?

In view of the drama’s we been having lately with Express buses crashing out of the road and taking lives with them, the latest drama has unfolded in the form of the insurance companies making conditions to insure them.

Based on a article i read on The Star, its indicated that the insurance companies are now laying down a list of conditions before insuring.

Below are some of the conditions :

The company, which insures the bulk of express buses on the road, will require bus companies to pay up to RM5,000 for death or injuries, and RM10,000 for property damage claims if those conditions are not fulfilled.

Among the conditions are:

> Full compliance with permit provisions,

> Having Puspakom road-worthiness certificates,

> That drivers are not drug addicts and alcoholics,

> That drivers have valid licences and are free of traffic warrants, and

> That drivers are physically and mentally fit

Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association president came out slamming this action saying that the bus insurers are holding the bus companies ransom with these directives. Its a requirement for bus companies to have insurances and there are no 2 ways about it.

What’s he whinning about??

I find this whole thing absolute rubbish!! Aren’t the above basic things that all bus companies are supposed to comply anyway?? I think its a good move by the insurance companies in implementing these guidelines.

Think about it, would you travel on a bus that’s nor roadworthy?driven by a drug addict/alcoholic?No License?Mentally not fit? or does not have a driving license?
No brainer isn’t it?

With the Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association president making such noises only makes you wonder how much dirt there actually is isn’t it?

Ponder about it! :)

  2. Nope never have been save. I would support the gov’s decision to bar all buses from getting on to the road till the bus and it’s drivers have passed the tests.

Which is more important, getting somewhere on time or your life?
