Facebook invests in underwater Internet cable

Facebook invests in underwater Internet cable – Facebook has invested in the Asia Pacific Gateway, a 6,214-mile undersea cable designed to improve Internet speeds for citizens and businesses in the region, the BBC reports. The fiber-optic cable will run directly from Malaysia to South Korea and Japan, with links branching off to other countries. It’s suggested that a total of $450m (£280m) in total has been invested.

The project to construct and maintain APG is funded by a group that includes two large Chinese internet service providers, China Telecom and China Unicom.

The fibre-optic cable will help the countries send and receive data to North America faster, according to consortium leader Time Dotcom.

This is great news with the large players investing in infrastructure which can improve the experience not only the way it looks but the speed and experience.
