Time to Fine Litter-Bugs?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

spotter1Litter-Bugs are like culture for Malaysians. How many times have you seen a piece of tissue flying out of the car in front of you. Or a can being thrown to the side of the road after being consumed? There was a article in the papers of how DBKL was hitting out at party goers who messed up the streets after a massive Christmas Eve celebration.

DBKL very rightly pointed out that it was every-one’s right to party and have a good time moreover its the holiday season and those who fancy partying will let their hair down and release some steam. But what ever reason, it needs to be done with some sence of responsibility. (more…)

When you vote during the elections, you vote for someone who will look both big and small that should be looked at.In Malaysia we are so used to the having politicians being a few steps higher than the regular citizen and for someone to gain access to your elected representative is normally extremely difficult.

The elected representative’s job is to to represent the voters in a particular constituency and bring these problems to the right sources and ultimately getting the problems resolved. After the 8th of March there was a better mix of oppositions in the equation as ruling party representatives. This is superb as there is a balance that keeps those in office on their toes and to perform up to expectations.

One of my favourite elected representative is Hannah Yeoh, she has been very impressive in my eyes in her work and simply focused on her constituency in making it a safe place to live in and always accessible. If you read her blog some of the work that she has been doing, it gives you a good feeling that the people of Subang Jaya have done well in voting her into office. (more…)

How Good Is The MyCard?

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

mykad_card

In Malaysia we have the MyKard. This apparently is a break through technology that was implemented to bring Malaysia to the new era of technology and to ease life for all Malaysians. Yes it looks good and it consolidates your identification, your license information(which is still not at 100%) and the touch n go!

Anyway.. Did you know that Estonia is another country that has implemented a similar solution but they have since taken their version which they call the ID Card and ran with it.

1985629924_d1193abffePretty much looks and feels the same as the MyKard isnt it? Well, yes thats about the only similarity between the MyKard and Estonia’s ID Card. As usual we come up with very good ideas fast and gets implemented fast but what happens after that? We very seldom evaluate how this can be further improved. Its like our transportation system, when there is a need to improve the system we get a refresh of the buses used! That’s improving the transportation system apparently but have you seen the condition of the apparent refreshed buses after a year? Have you heard of improved networks? I haven’t at least!

Anyway…To give you a idea of what Estonia have done, watch the video below! (more…)
