One Year Later

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

So its been a year since the Hindraf rally toke place. Since then much has happened.

We have a historic election, We have had 5 arrested under the ISA, We have had numerous teddy bear’s being looked at as threats, We have had Hindraf getting banned, And so much more! The movement have since been declared illegal and Hindraf has called for all to pray for the well being of the nation in their respective places of worship(which also got some resistance)

Well what now?

I have got my thoughts on what the movement have done and what needs to be done (PURELY MY VIEW) which i will blog about on a different day. I want to share this video with S Indra Devi, wife of Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee and Hindraf legal adviser P Uthayakumar. What does it mean to those who were in the thick of the action.

Buy What You Need

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

The economy is going to the dumps and with cost of living sjy rocketing more and more people are finding it difficult to make ends meet. But why is prices going to the roof and what can we consumers do to try keep the prices low? A friend of mine sent me this good story that gives you a idea how you can help keep the price low and how everyone has a part to play.

A man eats two eggs each morning for breakfast. When he goes to the grocery store he pays 60 cents a dozen. Since a dozen eggs won’t last a week he normally buys two dozen at a time. One day while buying eggs he notices that the price has risen to 72 cents. The next time he buys groceries, eggs are 76 cents a dozen.

When asked to explain the price of eggs the store owner says, ‘The price has gone up and I have to raise my price accordingly’. This store buys 100 dozen eggs a day. He checked around for a better price and all the distributors have raised their prices. The distributors have begun to buy from the huge egg farms. The small egg farms have been driven out of business. The huge egg farms sell 100,000 dozen eggs a day to distributors. With no competition, they can set the price as they see fit. The distributors then have to raise their prices to t he grocery stores. And on and on and on. (more…)

Yoga is banned, Bahasa Malaysia Next??

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Here is something interesting, go to Google Images. Type in Yoga and do a search…Do you see one image on the main page that shows you the link between Yoga to Hinduism? I did that search and i didn’t get any images of any Indian or anything Hindu related. Anyway…

The National Fatwa Council has ruled that yoga is ‘haram” for Muslims.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor Husin said only the physical aspect of yoga, without the mantras and elements of worshipping outwardly, was not wrong (in Islam).

However, he said, yoga was not to be encouraged among Muslims for fear that it could erode their Islamic faith since the physical part was a component of yoga practice as a whole.

He said there were three stages to yoga practice, which originated from the Hindus: first, the physical aspect which is the exercise part; second the mantras and worshipping; and third the unification of oneself with God.

Ive got many Muslim friends who are not exactly happy with the sudden rescriction being place on them. The women were not spared as well with tomboys, short hair and even pants becoming issues. Anyway.. I was thinking along the similar lines of what could be the next to make the headlines and i thought..

BAHASA MALAYSIA!! I did a look-up on wiki and this is what i got :

The Malay language  was heavily influenced by Sanskrit, the lingua franca of Hinduism and Buddhism. The earliest known inscription in the Old Malay language was found in Sumatra, written in Pallava Script and dates back to 7th century – known as Kedukan Bukit Inscription, it was discovered by the Dutchman M. Batenburg on 29 November, 1920, at Kedukan Bukit, South Sumatra, on the banks of the River Tatang, a tributary of the River Musi. It is a small stone of 45 by 80 cm.

That’s not safe for consumption isnt it? Maybe we should stop using Bahasa Malaysia since there is heavy sanskrit in it and since sanskrit is the language of Hinduism and Buddhism it could potentially could erode their faith.

Sad case in my view, im not sure who exactly the authorities are trying to protect?? My Muslim friends have got their religion and beliefs in check and everyone respects that.

Yoga centre’s are not going to be happy about this! Its another form of exercise and i wont be suprised if we did a audit on Yoga centre’s and those who yoga ,you might find much much more non hindu’s practising it. Its a form of exercise for heavens sake! Where is our country heading too!?

Climate Witness

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Climate change has been the topic of discussion for a long time by many people. Some think its a myth and some think it is a serious problem that we need to do something about. WWF International has come up with a super program that gets people effected by climate change to come up and tell their stories.

I think its a brilliant effort that allows people to tell real stories from their experiences we learn the reality hence we know the importance this issue.

Michael Jackson is now Mikaeel Jackson

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

This is a interesting piece of news, Micheal Jackson has converted to Islam today. He has not being having the best of times with trials after trials and its sad considering the fact that he was huge before. Hopefully things will improve for Michael Jackson.

Btw..His name is now Mikaeel Jackson.

Forgive my ignorance but did he really need to change his name? It was the faith that he embraced isn’t it?

Excerpts from a report:

The 50-year-old star, pledged his allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a friend’s mansion in Los Angeles, the Sun reported.

Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate — days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab Sheik

The 50-year-old star, pledged his allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a friend’s mansion in Los Angeles, the Sun reported.

Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate — days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab Sheik, the paper said.

“They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.

“An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief,” the source revealed.

Sam & Vince Win Amazing Race Asia 3

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Same & Vince have won the 3rd installment of The Amazing race Asia! I watched it over AXN last night and even though i was routing for the Malaysian team(Malaysian mah!) but i must say that Sam & Vince were worthy winners! They have done well and a heavy mistake by Ida & Tania cost them the tittle but it was a good race and to make it the top 3, they have done well!

As far as the race’s most hated team is concerned… Geoff and Tisha i must say that every race needs a Geoff and Tisha!! They were good tv value with their race style and they have done well. I’m not sure if they will remain a item for way too long but i hope they work it out!

This race for sure has been the best so far and the toughest that we have seen to date! I hope more normal people are chosen to represent the countries in the next seasons and it gets more and more exciting!

Congrats to the top 3 and the producers!! :)
