Arrested Bloggers

Recently Malaysia has been experiencing a frenzy of bloggers that have been arrested. This year alone we saw bloggers RPK,Penarik Beca and Kickdefella being arrested. I was wondering if this is a trend that has been happening around the world that our government have been “learning from”

I must find the book “101 ways to keep bloggers shut” I think some governments of the world skipped the content and got to the end bit where it said ARREST THEIR ASS. Its mind boggling that government see bloggers as national threats and rapist, kidnappers and murderers are still roaming around looking for new targets.

Last year alone we had Nurin,Sharlinie,Preeshena and god knows how many more were either murdered or kidnap. The highlight after they have gone the cases were suddenly not spoken about and no updates were given. Are bloggers that bad that you need to arrest them and give them such a hard time??

Well back to the original story… [Read more...]

Bullshit In Egypt

With the arrest of bloggers and politicians which is severely denting freedom of speech lately i was wondering if this crap only happens in Boleh-land and apparently not! Another country which arrest bloggers who are critical of the government is Egypt. In Egypt many bloggers have been arrested without proper justification. It seems that some governments think they are superhero’s that can wave the powerful wand and shut off those who speak against them.

In Egypt, A young Egyptian blogger Mohamed Refaat has being in jail since July. [Read more...]

The Malaysian Political Oscars

When a columist has a sence of humour and is a director, actor and writer what do you get? A story that is a brilliant read but hardly makes the papers because the person approving the articles wants to keep the National Security Department(ISA) out of its sights.

I found this brilliant write up on Huzir Sulaiman’s new blog via Bongkersz which did not make it past the editors desk for obvious reasons(Takut lah!).

Anyway enough of the reasons it didn’t make it etc…Have a read at the article that got spiked entitled :

The Malaysian Political Oscars!

Our political situation is like something out of a movie – so here are the awards. The envelope, please…

The Wide Angle Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, headquartered for no particular reason in Skudai, presents this year’s Malaysian Political Oscars.

The most widely watched television event in Malaysia, the Political Oscar telecast reaches over 1 billion viewers, some of whom are dead, some of whom are 130 years old, and most of whom are registered at the same address.

How does it work? Members of the academy (all Malaysian taxi drivers who despite being allegedly the worst in the world at driving taxis are remarkably good at political analysis) vote on these awards, and the results are tabulated by the auditors of some large accounting firm who would rather do this sort of thing than real accounting work, which might explain the state of the economy.

Here are the nominees and winners.

Best Supporting Actor
It is a crowded field this year, with many stellar performances from both veterans and newcomers.

The nominees include private investigator P. Balasubramaniam in Missing; Pusrawi’s Dr. Mohd Osman in Rear Window; Zaid Ibrahim in Gone in Sixty Seconds; and Raja Petra Kamaruddin in An Inconvenient Truth.
