From Child Prodigy to Hooker

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Gosh..this is one sad story. Did you know that we had a child prodigy who gained entry into Oxford at the age of 12? Things toke a unfortunate twist and now she is now a HOOKER. The following British newspaper article quotes her as claiming that she is studying for a Masters degree in Economics.

News of the World disclossed this story.

For sad Sufiah the daily equation she has to solve is simply sex equals £130 as she sells her body to punters over the internet. The gifted girl with the winning smile had the world at her feet ten years ago and should be a rich woman by now—but last week she was busy subtracting her underwear for our undercover reporter in her dingy back street flat

Earth Hour 2008

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Last night marked the second edition of Earth hour.People switched off lights around the world dimming buildings, hotels, restaurants and bars to show concern at global warming.

Up to 30 million people were expected to have switched off their lights for 60 minutes by the time “Earth Hour” — which started in Suva in Fiji and Christchurch in New Zealand — has completed its cycle westwards against the sun.

More than 380 towns and cities and 3,500 businesses in 35 countries signed up for the campaign that is in its second year after it began in 2007 in Sydney alone.

In Malaysia, thousands toke part in Earth Hour turning off their lights for one hour between 8-9pm. Most people signed up via Earth hour website and several Facebook groups .

The awareness is slowly picking up but one hour alone is not enough! We have to make this a habit, a good habit that will contribute towards mother earth. I know you may think that you alone is not enough but there is exactly where it starts! Do you bit and collectively it will make a difference.

There are several groups on Facebook and local NGO’s that help show us the right way!

Join the Facebook groups HERE and WWF Malaysia to stay updated on how you can help and change your practices!

Chelsea coming to Malaysia

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Chelsea is coming to Malaysia in July as part of its pre-season Asian tour.

The former English Champions will take on a team composed of the best players from the Malaysian Super League in Kuala Lumpur on July 29. It will also play in another Asian country, although the match and venue has yet to be announced.

The move is the latest part of Chelsea’s efforts to boost its profile in Asia.I hope Chelsea brings their best team and showcase the cream of the crop here, not some second string side!

The club has already invited contestants from a Chinese television talent show to visit its stadium and academy, and follows its involvement with a project called Vision China, which aims to set up 10 city leagues in the country.

I’m a Liverpool die hard but im also a fan of the game so irrelevant of who comes,I’m going!! ;)

The star newspaper(online version) has got a brand spanking new look! I like the way it looks, very futuristic and looks like a paper of tomorrow. Will the news reported follow suit? I sure hope so! Frankly Malaysians are sick of biased news and its about time we got some neutral news so people can read the papers without worrying about one sided news.

Congrats the star on the new look!

AirAsia X Grows

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

AirAsia X inked a deal Thursday to buy another 10 Airbus A330 aircraft, taking its order to 25 planes, as it unveiled plans to expand services to London and India. The 10 A330s have a list value of US$2 billion (€1.27 billion) and will be delivered progressively over the next five years.AirAsia X, which launched flights in November, has already ordered 15 wide-bodied A330s, two of which will be delivered later this year and another two in 2009. It now flies from Kuala Lumpur to Australia’s Gold Coast and to Hangzhou in China using one leased plane.

The new plane order comes after AirAsia X raised more funds last month by selling a 10 percent stake each to Japan’s Orix Group and Bahrain-based Manara Consortium for a total of 250 million ringgit (US$78 million; €50 million). After the sale is completed, AirAsia X’s parent, Aero Ventures Sdn. Bhd., will own 48 percent of the carrier while billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Group will hold 16 percent. AirAsia, the region’s top low-cost carrier, holds the remaining 16 percent

In my opinion this is exactly how a airline should be operated.Proper analysis and well planed, to hit the long term growth of the company. Its like raising a child in a way. If you spoil the child and spoon feed everything the child eventually will not know how to stand on its own feet, but guide the child and make them learn themselves, they eventually become street smart and become great people!

Well done Air Asia X, it may not be huge now but Air Asia has set the benchmark and the guide is all set for AirAsia X to become another great Malaysian brand.

Smart But Slow Tunnel

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

If you are a user of the Smart tunnel, it was closed for a few days last week after the tunnel was used to clear up flood water. It was closed on the 22nd of March and only re-opened yesterday the 26th of March. It takes the tunnel about 4 days to be re-opened after being used.

The excuse story :

ode I occurs when there is no rain or light rain, while Mode II is when there is moderate rain requiring water to be diverted through the tunnel’s lower channel without requiring the motorway to be closed.

Mode III is when the rainfall is heavy enough to require the tunnel’s closure.

During the closure, water had to be pumped out, the 3km motorway physically cleaned and all electrical equipment and systems checked to ensure they were working well.

Only after all this will the Malaysian Highway Authority approve its reopening

4 days?? How much did this tunnel cost us again? Smart but very slow eh!

Bloggers influence

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

A good heat map of countries where bloggers are active in providing the masses the info(which mainstream tend to not talk about). There are strong signs of Malaysia as being a active nation for bloggers to speak their mind. For me at least it spells good news as those who are on the internet do have access to the real deal, hopefully some day the mainstream will be too!!

This world heatmap shows the kind of attention each country gets in the blogging community. For instance, more bloggers like to talk about events in a country that’s painted in red vis-a-vis some country or region painted in orange or yellow.

blog-map

From blogging to traditional media – the following heatmaps of the world suggest how much each country of the world gets covered by popular mainstream media outlets like The New York Times and The Economist.

The Economist:

Gilles Bruno and Nicolas Kayser Bril started this project to illustrate how selective are newspapers in their coverage of world news. They now plan to update these maps daily to put more pressure on newspapers into covering more diverse and international news.

Dentist Joke

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

A dentist noticed that his next patient, a little old lady, was nervous so he decided to tell her a little joke as he put on his gloves.“Do you know how they make these gloves?” he asked.

“No, I don’t,” she replied.

“Well,” he spoofed, “there’s a building in Canada with a big tank of latex and workers of all hand sizes walk up to the tank, dip in their hands, let them dry, then peel off the gloves and throw them into boxes of the right size.”

She didn’t crack a smile.

“Oh, well. I tried,” he thought.

But five minutes later, during a delicate portion of the procedure, she burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny?” he asked

“I was just envisioning how condoms are made!”

Gotta watch those little old ladies! Their minds are always working!
