Tg Piai

18 September, 2007 – 6:46 pm

This topic was prompted from a email i received from a friend through the ContactMe page on this site. Thanks Devan for the idea, you got my brain ticking and here you have it! (If you have a topic you want me to look at, pls drop me a mail and ill get to it as soon as i can!)

A little back ground on this topic ,the email sent to me was as follows ->

Devan Said ;

“Tg. Piai located in Johor have been known to be the southernmost point of continent Asia, which means you can literally walk all the way from Tg.Piai, Johor right up to Russia, Europe, middle East and Africa. the thing is if you look at the brochure of discover Singapore, they claim Sentosa island to be the southernmost tip of Asia. They maybe be right as they are linked and they too can walk over using the causeway or 2nd link. so this is one more reason why Malaysia should get rid of the bridges!!!Your thoughts!!”

So i toke out my world map, courtesy of Google and to my delight Tg Piai is the southernmost point of continent Asia. What does this mean?? It means if you were to walk from Tg Piai to the north, you can effectively walk to China,Russia,Middle East and Africa!

Click Map for Full View/Click this for Full World map

That’s a large map showing that as long as your in Malaysia, you have access to all the mentioned continents by foot! The brochures raving about Sentosa island being the south most point to the continent has got to be absolute rubbish unless the we are mysteriously being connected by the dead whale lying between Malaysia and Singapore which they Singaporeans have claimed to be theirs :)

Like Devan has rightly said, we should probably remove the linking bridges and cut the water supply and watch the show eh?

Sorry to dash your hopes and dreams my dear Singaporean brother’s and sister’s ,Sentosa island is not the South most point. Its just another marketing gimmick(or that dude just didn’t have access to a map) to make you feel proud to be Singaporean!

Found this on the web of a trip this guy made to Tg Piai, looks pretty good if you like a get away to nature –>Tg Piai

Are our express Buses actually safe?

18 September, 2007 – 12:03 pm

In view of the drama’s we been having lately with Express buses crashing out of the road and taking lives with them, the latest drama has unfolded in the form of the insurance companies making conditions to insure them.

Based on a article i read on The Star, its indicated that the insurance companies are now laying down a list of conditions before insuring.

Below are some of the conditions :

The company, which insures the bulk of express buses on the road, will require bus companies to pay up to RM5,000 for death or injuries, and RM10,000 for property damage claims if those conditions are not fulfilled.

Among the conditions are:

> Full compliance with permit provisions,

> Having Puspakom road-worthiness certificates,

> That drivers are not drug addicts and alcoholics,

> That drivers have valid licences and are free of traffic warrants, and

> That drivers are physically and mentally fit

Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association president came out slamming this action saying that the bus insurers are holding the bus companies ransom with these directives. Its a requirement for bus companies to have insurances and there are no 2 ways about it.

What’s he whinning about??

I find this whole thing absolute rubbish!! Aren’t the above basic things that all bus companies are supposed to comply anyway?? I think its a good move by the insurance companies in implementing these guidelines.

Think about it, would you travel on a bus that’s nor roadworthy?driven by a drug addict/alcoholic?No License?Mentally not fit? or does not have a driving license?
No brainer isn’t it?

With the Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association president making such noises only makes you wonder how much dirt there actually is isn’t it?

Ponder about it! :)

Rotation? What rotation?

17 September, 2007 – 10:16 am

It was a frustrating weekend if your a Liverpool fan.The reds managed a sad 0-0 draw against the reliant Pompey, after a 6-0 win something like this is sad to watch!
My take on the game, i feel Rafa had a eye on the Champions League  game and that called for the team selection. I think it was not a too bad result to be honest, yes we are supposed to be winning these kind of games if you want to genuinely contend for the league tittle but this time last year,we were loosing the away games for fun! But then again its a game isn’t it?

When i came in to the office in the morning today, the first thing my friend told me was…Rafa started his shit ha!

I beg to differ, When you have had 3/4 of your team away on international duty, your left with a handful of first team players..How do you prepare for the game?
You use these players and set the game play according to them, when your international players come back you evaluate who is fit and not and select accordingly. At the Liverpool camp even the second string of players are as good as some mid table team’s first 11 so its not too bad!

Its not the worst situation if you look at it, Liverpool is 3rd with one game in hand no injuries and Rafa managed to rest his stars! The current situation is we have a team of fit players, Rafa has the option of picking from a whole team from for the Porto game as well as the upcoming EPL games.

The other thing that people keep talking about is rotation, its funny when you hear some of the other fan just pay close attention to their facial reactions. Its hilarious, they seem like they know what their talking about…like they make better decisions then the actual managers.

As far as I’m concern its not rotation, its picking the right players to do the job.
There are so many factors in deciding a team, when you have the resources you should maximize it to your benefit. There are many elements then the best players on the field, i feel more then the best players, it should be the right players on the field! Gone where the days where the team depended on one or two players to spur them on game in game out(some teams are still like that :) )

Its early days in the season but come Dec we will have a sign on who is challenging and who is chasing ,the league ends in May not Sept!

Btw…What a performance by Arsenal! Its always a pleasure to watch Arsenal playing the game and now they know how to score too!!

Russian Mayor Bans Some Expressions

16 September, 2007 – 9:09 pm

I think that our politicians should seriously implement this here as well! Its annoying when you get answers like “I don’t know” and “I can’t.” You think its drastic? I think its awesome!!

Story

MOSCOW (Sept. 5) - The mayor of a Siberian oil town has ordered his bureaucrats to stop using expressions such as “I don’t know” and “I can’t.” Or look for another job.

Alexander Kuzmin, the 33-year-old mayor of Megion, has banned these and 25 other phrases as a way to make his administration more efficient, his spokeswoman said Tuesday.

“It’s a suggestion to the staff that they should think before saying something,” Oksana Shestakova said by telephone. “To say `I don’t know’ is the same as admitting your helplessness.”

To reinforce the ban, a framed list of the banned expressions has been hanging on the wall next to Kuzmin’s office for the past two weeks, Shestakova said.

Some of the other prohibited phrases are “What can we do?” “It’s not my job,” “It’s impossible,” “I’m having lunch,” “There is no money,” and “I was away/sick/on vacation.”

Kuzmin, a businessman who was elected mayor 1 1/2 years ago, wants to “shake things up” in Megion, a town of 54,000 in the Khanty-Mansiisk region, the spokeswoman said.

The region, located some 1,500 miles northeast of Moscow, produces more oil than the rest of Russia combined. As world oil prices have risen sharply in recent years, the region has flourished, and in stark contrast to the rest of the country its population has grown at the rapid rate of more than 7 percent annually.

But construction has not kept pace, and the lack of adequate housing is one of the town’s most serious problems, Shestakova said.

“Town authorities are there to make town residents’ life comfortable and prosperous,” Kuzmin, a trained oil engineer who studied business administration in Canada, said in a statement posted on the town Web site. “Town officials must work out mechanisms to solve and remove problems, not to avoid them.”

Officials who disobey the ban while in the mayor’s office “will near the moment of their departure,” the statement said.

Providing the mayor with wrong or incomplete information, or being late in reporting important information will be considered an attempt to undermine his work, it said.

Anna Borovikova, the mayor’s chief of staff, said the novel approach has improved discipline.

“Before, it was so easy to say `I don’t know.’ Now before reporting to the mayor we prepare several proposals on how one or another problem can be solved,” Borovikova said.
At first it was hard to remember not to use the banned expressions, she said, and they “slipped in sometimes.”

Ramadan Month!

15 September, 2007 – 12:35 am

Its here again! Our Muslim friends will be celebrating Hari Raya in a months time but before that they need to go through a full month of fasting. Well,I’m sure the fasting month has got great significance to all Muslims but what does it mean to us non Muslims??

Were pretty lucky to be living in a country where different religions live together without much drama and hopefully nothing can and will ruin that! I’m sure your thinking of lots of other things that maybe don’t go your way here but lets leave all of that out of the picture for a while and think of the bigger picture.

For me personally I’ve got nothing but respect for our Muslim friends! Have you tried fasting for full day? I have done it many times but its with water, imagine what they do.No water,no food for as long as the sun is up and no sins a whole month. The way i look at it, it takes something special to achieve that!

How do we non Muslims do our part?? Lets be a little considerate to them, don’t sink your mouth into a juicy burger when your around them, and take it easy on them! After all, have you seen the kinda food we all have access too when they break their fast??

Its a blessing!! I’m a fool for good food and i look forward to the fasting month simply because the kind of spread you get when its time to break fast is mind blowing!

Good enough a carrot?? :)

A list of the Ramadan Bazaar’s this time around are -> HERE!

Selamat Berpuasa(Happy Fasting) and don’t forget to invite us all to your houses for Raya!!

McLaren Spy Row

14 September, 2007 – 7:45 pm

This whole spy things has been really bad!! I’m a avid McLaren fan and when the team you support is involved in a controversy…it’s ugly! Worst when they are doing soo well this year! I didn’t deep dive into the whole episode but from what i understand, on of the McLaren engineers who had a contact at the Ferrari camp leaked out some important information of Ferrari’s race team, car, owners underwear color to the McLaren engineer. There was a tip off and these documents were found at the home of this Mclaren engineer(sounds like a movie plot isn’t it!)

It reached FIA and McLaren are in some real hot soup. The worst thing happened yesterday, they were docked all the points they gathered off constructors and effectively putting them out of the running for the constructors championship and fined 100Million!!

The light at the end of the tunnel is that the drivers points are not effect(yet) which give both drivers (who are currently lead the drivers championship) a chance in salvaging a real disappointing season!

Like me lots of racing supporters are shocked with this whole debacle! Some former drivers have express their shock and claim that McLaren are a very straight team and this drama is very un-like the teams practice and feel there is more to the story.

I’m sure that the people at McLaren will be appealing the whole charge with the FIA and if that doesn’t work,a appeal will be filled at higher courts!

Hopefully this doesn’t spoil what ever’s left of the current season on the other hand hopefully brings the team together in blowing the championship away…….next season!
