Note To Self : Refine Priorities

One modern footballer once said : ” I do everything I do really well, if i can’t .. I wont do it” . How many times have you found your self in a situation when you do too many things but don’t do anything exceptionally well? Simple things, just say you have hobbies. Fishing, Gardening, Photography or even blogging. Do you do it very well or at least take effort to do it really well?

I don’t

I often find myself trying to do many many things. The minute i get introduced to something new, that takes precedence over everything else and i find others taking the back seat.

Jack of All Trades they call them

My dad used to tell me this all the time growing up, “You are a jack of all trades, master of none”. Didnt make sense back then but it sinks in. Time to do a stock check of the things i do, realign what i want to do and do it really well. Become a true expert in the field and taking it one thing at a time. Too much wastage of time which we don’t really have.

Live today like its your last and you will reap the benefits of the time well spent said the modern-day Edison, Mr.Jobs .. You are right!

Note to Self : Jealousy

Jelousy

Do you find yourself feeling jealous of someone else? I suppose its only natural for that very emotion to creep in from time to time but when it happens a little more than you like, the natural response is to put it to rest consciously or sub consciously. This is the dangerous part, sometimes people go to great lengths to get to a position where they can potentially hurt others or themselves.

This can eventually eat into you and impacts you mentally which can be exhausting and sometimes destructive. Maybe its a good idea to not worry about the rest of the world because the whole world isnt all that worried about you. For me, i think its a waste of time. We only have 24 hours a day and there are way more things that can be done.

Sometimes you are in front , sometimes you are behind. The race is long and at the end its only with yourself!

Note to Self : Persistence

Persistence Persistence Persistence

In my all time favorite movie Shawshank Redemption, Andy who became a librarian to help Brooks. When Andy steps into the library he see’s how run down the library is and decides to write to the State Senate to request for a donation to improve the library. He wrote 1 letter a week continuously for 6 years and eventually got a response with the State Senate:

In addition, the Library District has generously responded with a charitable donation of used books and sundries. We trust this will fill your needs. We now consider the matter closed. Please stop sending us letters. Yours truly, the State Comptroller’s Office.

What did the very happy Andy then do?

From now on, I send two letters a week instead of one

Its persistence! Its such a important value, we cant be satisfied with the little that some may give us for what ever reason. Sometimes we get things so we are not on someone’s back and keep demanding for more. Its like some governments. They stay mum and when the time has arrived to be voted back into office, they build a road or give clean water? So is that enough?

It can be life, the job, finances, skill sets, personal development .. It can be anything. Be persistent, it will pay!

Note to Self : Make Mistakes

Freedom to Make Mistakes

I used to get beaten for making mistakes. When i messed up at home growing up, my dad used to spank my ass so hard because i screwed up. Then when i went to school and a mistake was made, i would get punished. In college, it was the same script, you mess up and your parents will be escorting me to college where the not so good looking pricipal lays down the law with a stern face. [Read more...]

Advice

Have you come across those who seem to have a answer to every possible problem? They some how seem to know everything and give advice like they were a subject matter expert? Oh Surely! If there is something that we will never run short from is, resident Albert Einstein’s is what i like to call them.

Now lets take a step back and look at these “Albert’s” under a microscope. Normally they fit the profile of having pretty messed up lives them selves and give advice based on their “experience”. Sometimes its genuine and sometimes its just them being their selves, a true smart ass.

I think that we should always evaluate the situation and listen if you want too but make sure that the ultimate decision is made by YOU and not any Albert. After all, you are the one that will face the consequences and not these esteemed advice givers.

Just my thoughts :)
