Airtel to Sponsor Man Utd

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Remember the story about AirAsia considering to be the new Manchester United sponsor? Well, its not happening because Man U have announced that they have agreed a 5 year deal with Airtel, a Indian mobile phone company to be the shirt sponsor for Manchester United.

We are very excited to partner with Manchester United, a powerful global brand with huge following across the world and in India,” said Sanjay Kapoor, Deputy CEO, Bharti Airtel.

Its a smart partnership for the Indian telco giants which should give them huge global presence and opportunities for Indians to watch games, train and rub shoulders with the stars.

Europa League

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

754082_biglandscape

The UEFA Cup will be known as the EUROPA League from next season onwards. This is a whole re-branding with changes in many areas.

The new name heralds major changes to the competition, which will have a new 48-team group stage with centralised marketing of broadcast rights, a presenting sponsor and an official matchball in addition to centralised sponsorship from the knockout stage and a new logo and visual identity. UEFA President Michel Platini said

The changes will definately make the new Europa League far more prestigious and take it off the shadows of the European Champions league.
PS- Note to fans, this does not reset the meters on previous winners :)

Malaysian Sports Chanel

Friday, May 8th, 2009

nicol-ann-david-cimb-open-2007There has been much debate of the lack of coverage of Malaysian sports on tv. Yes we have a Malaysian version of Sportscenter on ESPN but thats not enough…apparently.  By end of this year, we will have our very own tv channel over Astro that focuses on Malaysian sports. So now we might be able to watch tournaments that Nicol David plays in or even maybe the world sepak takraw series which we used to be champs in.

Tunku Imran said a tv sports channel was the “missing link” in the country’s efforts to develop sports to higher levels.

Tunku Imran also said that what many people did not realise was that Malaysia was actually a successful sporting nation although the country had yet to win its first ever 0lympic gold medal

Hopefully with the introduction of this new channel, there will be more interest in Malaysian sports and hopefully this puts more pressure on the sports man and women to deliver medals, tittles that can really put us on the sporting map.

I’m hopeful that this is NOT the only aspect that is taken under consideration because its personally i wont be tuning into a channel to only watch our sports men and women constantly being bashed by other competitors :)

Malaysia Wonderkid

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I was doing my rounds on the reader and saw this posting at Noktah Hitam about a Malaysian Wonderkid which i had to watch. Wan Kuzain running circles around the opposition and he looks small enough to just wear the jersey without the shorts and still not look bad.

I sure hope there are a whole generations of this kind being developed to replace the current not so impresive crop.

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy who use to be the player that destroys Manchester United in the past has done it again, this time wearing a different shirt.
